After years of pain, it was finally time to have surgery on my foot. Growing up, I always thought that I just had feet destined to play soccer (very wide -- rockin' corner kicks and chipping the ball), but as it turns out, bunions run in my family. Years of trauma on my feet from soccer, paired with cleats and tight shoes, did not do me any justice.
Before:
We have declared this to be the year of the boot. After my right foot heals, my hope is to have my left done by winter break.
Booooot it!
Oh, how I dislike you already, crutches.
The blurry picture is an accurate depiction of the way I feel. Yay, pain meds! :)

The Procedure
The surgery entailed two incisions on each side of my foot -- one to remove the bunion from the inside of my foot and another to remove the bunionette on the outside of my foot. They shaved/hacked/mangled off the protruding bone and cut my big toe joint to realign it to normal position. They fused the joint with a plate and screws that will remain in my foot. I will post after-pictures once my dressings are off.
Phone-in It with Shortbreads
We were having entirely too much fun. Part of it may have been the medication or it may have been the fact that I was finally able to get my coffee.
At home and ready to recover:
I completely underestimated the weight of the dressing, pads, and boot (close to 20 lbs)
Greens and green tea for a speedy recovery!
Can't have greens without the fixin's, though.
LOTS of green tea!
After surgery and still feeling the wonderful effects of the administered block.
Twenty-four hours later and the block wore off. Feeling has come back to all extremities with a vengeance. Agony...sheer agony. Turns out Norco is not strong enough. *sigh*
